The Beton Hala or Concrete Hall is one of Belgrade’s popular places during hot summer days.

The Concrete Hall is located in Karađorđeva Street 2-4, close to the Savamala Center, next to the Belgade port and under the Kalemegdan fotress. In 2006, abonanded warehouses became, step by step, popular restaurants. The Sava River, which you can see from every restaurant makes this place special. Decorated with palms, Beton Hala will give you a holiday feeling. I prefer it there during the day, because it’s calm. At night it can get really crowded and you will need to make reservations. Almost all restaurants feature live music at night, especially during weekends.

Here is the list of the Concrete Hall restaurants:

Cantina de Frida

This restaurant is inspired by the life of the Mexican self-portrait artist and feminist icon Frida Kahlo. On the menu you will find warm and cold tapas from Spain, Mexico and South America, such as Guacamole with Nachos (290 din.), black olives and proscuitto with rocket and caper. (650 din.)

TORO Latin Gastrobar

TORO is a nicely suprising South American and Asian fusion restaurant.  I love their small plates, which are designed for sharing. The combination of these two cuisines will bring your taste buds to a journey. I recommend to visit this place with more friends, so you can all take small plates, share and try everything. It will be hard to make a decision, because there is a wide range of everything there. I had guacamole with pomgranate (450 din.) and a Toro Salad (360 din.) I am not a big fan of cocktails, but Toro’s are great!

Sofa

Sofa is a very romantic place, perfect for a date or an anniversary celebration. If you want to take your taste buds on a Mediterranean fling, Sofa is the perfect place. You should definitely try some of their homemade Tagliatelle or Ravioli (starting from 680 din.) Leave some space for the dessert, because their chocolate soufflé is over the top. (440 din.) P.S.: The staff is amazing.

Comunale

Comunale is a Caffé and Cucina which serves delicious Italian food; from Penne, Gnocchi and Focaccia to Pizza and the finest meat selection. They also have burgers and fish dishes on the menu. The interior is simple: I like the wooden community tables. Comunale has their own bakery, so all pastries are home made and fresh from the stove. They have a wide selection of vine. Vino della casa is Veneto, which you can order from 0,15 l up to 1 l. I recommend the Minestrone Comunale soup (350 din.), the Penne Primavera (cherry tomatoes, rocket salad, mozzarella and pine nuts – 780 din.) or home made Gnocchi and for dessert a Chocolate soufflé of course. (420 din.)

Ambar

Ambar is a Balkan restaurant, where local cuisine meets creativity and modern design. The restaurant combines traditional dishes with the latest trends. It is a perfect place for drinking rakija and eat some starters. You can try different blends of kajmak (a creamy dairy product) with hazelnuts and forest strawberries or with smoked salmon and capers acompanied by home made bread. (220 din./90 din.) They have a wide choice of the finest Balkan rakijas. Btw, Ambar has a second Location in Washington DC.

Other restaurants:

If you don’t like fancy places, my alternative recommendation is the crane or the Beton Hala roof, which is at the same time a parking space. The view from there is fantastic and you can bring your own drinks.
